Housing 21 has been shortlisted for the Employer of the Year at the Women in Housing Awards 2022.

The Employer of the Year award aims to award an employer who provides an environment in which individuals and teams are able to succeed. Not only this, but also an employer which is inclusive and is a good representation of the community, within the housing sector.

Sophia Nakhooda, Head of People and Culture at Housing 21 said: “We’re delighted to be shortlisted for this year’s Women in Housing Awards. Previously the housing industry – particularly construction and development – has been seen as a male-dominated environment but we have worked hard to ensure Housing 21 is an inclusive employer and are particularly proud that several of our senior operations roles are held by women.

“With so many organisations incorporating the housing sector we are honoured to have been honoured with a shortlisting that reflects the proactive efforts we have undertaken to make us a candidate for Employer of the ear.

Housing 21 is a leading, not-for-profit provider of Retirement Living and Extra Care for older people of modest means.

In 2021, it achieved Investors in People Platinum standard, which is the highest level of accreditation achieved by just 1.6% of assessed organisations, with the assessor noting: “What is unique about your approach is the overt challenge and open opinions people have and express. The environment to enable this level of trust and confidence creates phenomenal outcomes.”

Housing 21 champions employee wellbeing and promotes a good work life balance by understanding it is not just time away from work that is important, but also addressing what support can be in place to help wellbeing at work.

One of the most recent examples is the menopause policy recognising that over 40 percent of women in the business are over the age of 50 and offering different resources and support to aid this whilst being at work. The organisation wants people to feel valued and to be provided with different opportunities to flourish and grow with the business.

In its recent employee survey, 95 percent of colleagues recorded diversity and inclusion were important to the organisation.

The Women in Housing Awards take place Monday 27h June 2022 at Manchester Central in Manchester.
